Corrosion research
The SURF group is internationally recognised for its expertise in unravelling mechanisms of electrochemical processes related with corrosion and protection, passivation of metals, localised corrosion of metals, anodising, inhibitors, conversion coatings, organic coatings, and self-healing coatings. The SURF group forms a world class community actively in pursuit of excellence in electrochemical and surface engineering and is recognised as an IOF (‘Industrieel Onderzoeksfonds’) Centre of Excellence within VUB. The multidisciplinary research strategy of the group is employed based on complementary macroscopic and local electrochemical methods, own developed computational software for process simulation and in-situ/ex-situ surface analytical techniques.
