Pedro Jorge

Pedro joined the SURF group in collaboration with the von Karman Institute of Fluid Dynamics as an FCT funded PhD student in October 2020. The focus of his PhD is studying gas-surface interactions in rarefied and reentry flows using both computational and experimental tools. The types of interactions studied include chemical reactions (erosion/oxidation), crucial to the design of safe materials for reentry/orbital conditions, as well as the momentum exchange between atmospheric particles and different satellite materials, which is central to the characterization of low drag materials.
