Nils Van den Steen
Biography
Nils obtained his master's degree in Electromechanical Engineering: aerospace, he joined the SURF research group as a PhD student. During his PhD study, he investigated the numerical modelling approaches of electrochemical processes especially the atmospheric corrosion. In the frame of his research work Nils provided one of the necessary steps towards reliable and fast corrosion prediction tools. An additional part of Dr. Van den Steen research is focused on lithium-ion batteries. As a post-doctoral researcher, Dr. Van den Steen concentrates on numerical prediction of atmospheric corrosion and understanding of the phenomena with the use of physics-based models. Both bare metal substrates and coated samples under different environmental conditions (static and cyclic are within his field of scientific interest. After the received his PhD degree in January 2018, he continued his research working on numerical atmospheric corrosion models. The scope of his research was broadened from mainly assuming uniform electrolyte layers on bare metals, to include droplets formation and coated systems.
