Néstor Calabia Gascón
Biography
Néstor arrive to Belgium from Spain after finishing with a bachelor’s in chemistry from the University of Zaragoza. He began a Master of Science in Chemistry at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in 2017. Once Néstor finished his Master thesis at the SURF department in Autumn 2019, he decided to pursue a a PhD under the supervision of Professors Annick Hubin and Herman Terryn. Combining both a fundamental and an industrial approach, his research lays on the study and improving of the interaction between two materials present in supercapacitors, namely conductive polymers within an etched aluminium body. He approaches the study of these systems combining electrochemical techniques, such as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and surface analysis, such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Raman spectroscopy.
