Marc Raes
Biography
Marc graduated as a Professional Bachelor Pharmaceutical and Biological Laboratory Technology in 1985. He joined the department in 1989 to become a member of the team that focused its research on the surface treatments of different metals, such as aluminum, steel and titanium in close cooperation with our industrial partners. Apart from his research activities, Marc provides logistic support for the daily operation of the department as well as technical support for other researchers.
Marc also focuses on the use of different surface analysis methods such as Scanning Electron Microscopy, Energy and Wavelength Dispersive X-ray Analysis (EDS and WDS), Field-Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy, Electron Probe Micro Analysis (EPMA) and Field-Emission Auger Electron Spectroscopy for the characterization of a wide range of materials and surfaces.
As an instrument officer, he provides training for master students, PhD students and post-doc researchers to use these devices correctly.
Marc is a member of the education team for the class on Chemistry in 1st Bachelor Engineering, where he assists with the organization of the practical lab sessions.
