Lieven Bekaert
Biography
Lieven obtained his BSc and MSc in Chemistry at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and joined the ALGC and Electrochemistry and Surface Engineering (SURF) research groups as an FWO funded fundamental research PhD fellow in 2020. He also performed an exchange study at Seoul National University at the Jongwoo Lim group and jointly worked with the SURF research group towards his master thesis on an "Electrochemical study of relaxation behaviour in lithium metal batteries". He is interested in combining experimental surface analysis and computational chemistry techniques (Density Functional Theory (DFT) and Ab-Initio Molecular Dynamics (AIMD)) to study interfaces in rechargeable lithium and sodium ion and metal batteries to improve their performance, lifespan and reliability, as well as developing novel computational techniques to elucidate interfacial processes.
