Guillermo Meza-Hernandez
Biography
Guillermo obtained his bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering in 2015 at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), followed by a master’s degree in Chemical and Materials Engineering at the Brussels Faculty of Engineering (BRUFACE) in 2020. His master’s thesis focused on the reactivity of fresh and recycled cement and was carried out within the project Concrete to High‑Performance Concrete (Beton naar hoogwaardig Beton, BnB).
In 2020, he joined the Laboratory of Physical Chemistry and Polymer Science (FYSC), part of the Department of Materials and Chemistry (MACH), as a scientific assistant. He is currently part of the research group led by Prof. Hubert Rahier, working on the valorization of industrial by‑products and waste for new construction materials for a more sustainable industry with lower environmental impact, the development of cementitious matrices for textile‑reinforced composites (TRCs), and the optimization of TRC manufacturing processes.
He has participated in projects sponsored by the European Commission, including the Interreg project Beton naar hoogwaardig Beton and the Horizon 2020 project Current Direct. He has also contributed to projects funded by the Flemish government through VLAIO, such as the ICON‑STIF project, the ICON‑Tecoton project, and the FWO‑SBO Aerocon project.
